Alfonso del Moral - Afternoon of a Faun

7 - 17 December 2023

℅ Sotheby's, Sturegatan 24

Curated by Ebba de Faire presents for the first time in Stockholm an exhibition of paintings by the Spanish artist Alfonso del Moral. An exhibition entitled Afternoon of a Faun.

Alfonso del Moral works mainly with figurative painting and his work often explores moments of intimacy and salacity. He is best known for his close-up studies of people from his own life and beyond, including close friends and icons of contemporary queer culture.

We are approaching a world of images reminiscent of an Instagram feed where the depicted boldly present themselves to the viewer, indifferent to the exposure.

“I am interested in the tension between the academic tradition and the aesthetics of the digital and social networks, which somehow confuses our expectation of the image surface, where the object has to some extent changed places with the viewer. The screen of the electronic device is our new window to other worlds," says del Moral

Alfonso del Moral, born in 1992 in Spain, has had several successful exhibitions since 2017. His broad interest in other fields such as dance, music, history, philosophy or sociology contributes an interdisciplinary vision to his work.
